Abstract
Pressing challenges of CO2 reduction, geopolitical realities, and the trend towards electrification to increase system efficiency are forcing the building sector to develop solutions for a carbon-free built environment.
With the European Green Deal, Europe has established a new vision for the expected evolution towards Smart Buildings & Districts.
In this track, both hardware and software technology innovations for decarbonization of the built environment will be presented.
First, speakers from public policy and the expertise centre of the construction sector will share their vision on the challenges and opportunities for decarbonisation in the built environment.
Through a series of duo-presentations by experts from academia and industry, you will then discover the R&D innovations, and their valorisation potential, for the following topics:
Hardware technologies:
- building-integrated solar cells enabling positive energy buildings and districts
- safe use and management of (solid-state) batteries with integrated sensors
- the return of direct current (DC) power grids in the built environment
- greening the heat supply in the built environment
Digital technologies:
- AI-based control algorithms enabling flexibility services in heat generation, while preserving comfort of residential consumers
- a future vision of AI solutions for smart control of energy flows in homes, buildings and districts.
- opportunities for the validation of emerging technologies in living labs
