Johan Van Bael - Project Manager and Activity Leader Optimisation of Thermal Systems, VITO / EnergyVille

Johan Van Bael has a Master’s Degree in applied science of electro-mechanical engineering. As a project manager since 1995 he worked on several regional, national and European projects both for the government and for the industry on cooling and heating systems, conversion systems (ORC and heat pumps), cogeneration, thermal energy storage, district heating and cooling and renewable energy sources. 

He is currently activity leader for the research related to the optimization of thermal energy systems including district heating and cooling, thermal energy storage and thermal conversion systems within VITO and research line coordinator of the topic thermal systems in Energyville.

Johan is expert in different European projects like FP7 Merits, FP7 E-Hub, H2020 Story, H2020 MATChING, H2020 FHP, H2020 Excess, H2020 Res4Build, H2020 GeoSmart, HEU Push-it, HEU Push2heat and HEU Hocloop. 

Johan is also inventor of several VITO patents related to thermal energy systems.
