Advancing society 5.0: the role of cutting-edge science in building a sustainable and inclusive future

While rapid technological advances, such as generative AI, advanced semiconductors, and quantum computing, are transforming the world, global challenges such as climate change and social division are becoming more pressing. Society 5.0—an evolving society that seeks to balance global sustainability and inclusiveness through digital transformation (DX)—requires low-power, high-speed, and high-capacity data processing at all levels, from cloud to edge and everything in between. Achieving this will require a new science that extends humanity's computing capabilities by integrating hardware, algorithms, software, and use case development. This presentation will highlight RIKEN’s initiatives and show how cutting-edge science can drive societal change.
