Silicon Photonics Technology: A platform facing diverging roadmap requirements

6:20 PM - 6:35 PM

Abstract

Today’s silicon photonics market growth is driven by the increased deployment of optical interconnects in datacenters. In the future, the pluggable transceivers for the network infrastructure will require higher bandwidth components to support 200G/lane and 400G/lane. At the same time, we expect further penetration of optical solutions deeper in the AI / ML compute systems, calling for low power and high aggregated bandwidth links at optimum data rate per lane. Besides these main drivers, new applications are emerging such as quantum computing or LiDAR, with their own specific requirements. In this presentation, we will review some of the application-driven innovation trends in various silicon photonics technology platforms.
