Biography

Imene Jadli is a physicist specializing in materials science and its applications, nanotechnology, and optoelectronics. She holds a Master’s degree (2015) and a PhD in Physics (2019) from the University of Monastir, Tunisia, where she conducted research in the Laboratory of Micro-Optoelectronics and Nanostructures.

After her PhD, she joined ASPITA, a private engineering school in Sousse, as Assistant Professor, teaching and managing university–industry partnerships while continuing her research at Monastir. In 2020, she moved to INSA Rennes, France, as Assistant Professor and researcher. Since 2022, Imene has been part of imec in Belgium, first in the 3D Integration team gaining expertise in advanced packaging, and now as Portfolio Manager in the Optical Interconnect team, driving innovation in photonic and interconnect technologies.

From photonic devices to the interconnect fabric: enabling AI training clusters through integrated photonics and advanced assembly

Business as usual scaling of compute for AI will soon hit bandwidth and latency walls, whereby processing units will sit idle while waiting for new data to process. At least part of these bottlenecks can be addressed through deployment of optics deep into these compute systems.

This talk highlights imec’s integrated photonic device roadmap, and shows how it can be combined with advanced assembly technology to realize optical interconnect with ultra-high bandwidths and low energy consumption. The same technology platform can also be used to remove latency bottlenecks from today’s AI training clusters.
