The intelligent edge: Embracing the challenge, pioneering the path
The hardware paradigm of the Information and Communications Technology industry has moved through three epochs since its emergence – mainframes, PC & Internet, and mobile & cloud.  Today, we are in the early days of a fourth era – the Intelligent Edge – as the center of gravity for data processing shifts increasingly from the cloud to the edge, thanks to applications like autonomous driving, predictive healthcare, and intelligent factory automation.  Companies are reducing system latency, cost, and power requirements by putting computing power closer to where the data is being generated and acted upon.

Achieving the Intelligent Edge era’s full potential will require strong execution and progress along three axes of innovation – semiconductor geometries (“More Moore”), combinatorial hardware technologies (“More than Moore”), and combinatorial non-hardware technologies (“Beyond Moore”).  While the first two axes are well-understood and have long histories in the semiconductor industry, the Beyond Moore axis consisting of embedded algorithms, software, and increasingly Artificial Intelligence, is relatively nascent.

Successfully building out the Intelligent Edge offers the tantalizing prospect of solving some of humanity’s most difficult and intractable challenges in productivity, efficiency, safety, and sustainability across virtually all industries.

In this talk, Analog Devices’ CEO and Chair Vincent Roche will discuss the most pressing technological and business challenges in the emerging Intelligent Edge era.
