Collaboration is key to make cars upgradeable and sustainable

The SDV will completely change our relationship with the car and the way we use it. Like with their smartphones today, car consumers can dream of a more customized and upgradeable car. Making this a reality requires us to re-think a number of established business practices.We will need to anticipate the hardware needs well in advance to make sure that the vehicle is able to receive SW updates over its service life. So we need to manage interoperability, scalability and cybersecurity over 10 or 20 years. This requires a collective, partnership-based approach -especially with the semiconductor industry- for hard- and software solutions, which means building an ecosystem of specialized players with complementary skills.
