David Andre

A scientist, inventor, artist, and entrepreneur, David has spent more than two decades exploring the frontiers of machine learning and artificial intelligence. Currently the Chief Science Officer at X, Alphabet’s moonshot factory, David leads a team of mathematicians and machine learning experts. Some of the projects David and his team are currently working on include moonshots for the electric grid and the supply chain and applying cutting edge AI and inverse design to help solve some of the world’s toughest challenges in biology, chemistry and computing. 

Before joining X, David helped found several companies including the Hedge Fund Cerebellum Capital, experiential adventure start up Shinteki, and workforce scheduling company Blue Pumpkin. Prior to starting Cerebellum Capital, he was the Director of Informatics at wearable body monitoring company BodyMedia. 

David worked as an engineer with Genetic Algorithm Technology Corporation, Canon Research Center of America, and the Theoretical Chemistry group at Ames Laboratory. David has more than 40 patents to his name and holds a PhD in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science from the University of California Berkeley, and a Bachelor of Science and Arts from Stanford University. Outside of work, Dave is a husband, father of two kids, passionate player of soccer and bridge, a puzzle nerd, and a travel-lover.
