Tyndall Summer Fellowship Programme

15:05 - 15:10

Abstract

The Tyndall Summer Fellowship Programme was launched in 2017, targeting undergraduate students from Ireland's third level educational institutions. Besides receiving basic training on semiconductor technologies, the Summer Fellows are assigned to work on a project with one of our research groups. Topics include the nanofabrication, device integration of novel materials, heterogeneous integration and smart systems.

The programme has delivered close to 150 trainees so far, the vast majority of which have been employed by the semiconductor industry or opter for a research career.  Summer Fellows were sponsored originally by IPIC under Research Ireland's research centres programme. Over time the Tyndall Summer Fellowship Programme has grown to accept up to 30 every year.  Thanks to NanoIC, we will accept this summer of 2025 for the first time Fellows from international institutions.

In this talk, I will describe the scope of the programme and participants’ impressions and share some of the lessons learned.
