Biography
Dr. Anirudh Devgan is a globally recognized technology and business leader who has redefined how artificial intelligence (AI) accelerates engineering and scientific innovation. As president and CEO of Cadence, he has led the company’s transformation into the category leader for AI‑driven computational software, enabling the next generation of intelligent systems across semiconductors, systems design, and life sciences.
Since becoming CEO in 2021, Dr. Devgan has guided Cadence through a period of sustained record growth while expanding the company’s portfolio beyond electronic design automation into system analysis and computational biology. His strategy of unifying physics, numerical methods, high-performance compute, and AI has significantly broadened Cadence’s impact and strengthened its position as a foundational partner for the world’s most advanced technology companies. Under his leadership, Cadence has more than doubled its market cap and consistently achieved double-digit three-year compound annual growth rate (CAGR).
A distinguished technologist and pioneer in AI for engineering, Dr. Devgan has driven many of the industry’s most influential breakthroughs. He led the development of massively parallel and distributed architectures that set new standards for SPICE simulation, physical design, static timing, power analysis, and electromagnetics, and he created the industry’s first common compiler architecture for emulation and prototyping. Dr. Devgan’s technical leadership and vision are central to Cadence’s approach to AI, building on and infusing AI across Cadence’s comprehensive silicon-system-packaging engineering software portfolio.
Dr. Devgan is an IEEE Fellow and a member of the National Academy of Engineering. He has authored numerous research publications, holds 27 U.S. patents, and is the recipient of major industry honors, including the Phil Kaufman Award, the IBM Corporate Award, and the IEEE McCalla Award. He serves on the boards of the Global Semiconductor Alliance, the Electronic System Design Alliance, and Lam Research, underscoring his influence across the semiconductor and systems industries.
He earned his bachelor of technology in electrical engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology Delhi and his master of science degree and doctor of philosophy degree in electrical and computer engineering from Carnegie Mellon University.
