Didier Ongena

VP Global Government - Microsoft

Biography

Didier Ongena is the Vice President - Global Government for Microsoft since April 2024. With his team, Didier supports Governments in their digital transformation efforts globally. As Governments seek to make their interactions with the public more accessible and inclusive, as they seek to empower their civil servants or modernize and secure their back-end systems, technology in general and Microsoft’s cloud and AI platform in particular, play a crucial role.

Most Governments are still at the beginning of their transformation journey, but it is impressive to see so many best practices across Asia, Latin America, the Middle East or closer to home in Europe. AI, Cybersecurity, Digital Sovereignty and National Resilience are a few of the focus areas that Didier and the government team will focus on. “I have been impressed to see so many cases where governments are using the latest cloud and AI technologies to change how they work and how they engage with citizens.”

Didier was already part of the WWPS team since October 2022, and previously Didier was leading the Belgium and Luxembourg subsidiaries, home of both the European Union Institutions and the NATO alliance. He is still acting as the Microsoft executive sponsor for the European Union Institutions and many other customers based in France, Germany or Canada.

Didier joined Microsoft more than 20 years ago, in 2003, in Belgium and is no stranger to public sector as he served as public sector lead in Belgium and Luxemburg from 2006 to 2008 already. Didier also led the European partner organization and has had some intrapreneurial experience launching Bing across Europe.

He is convinced there is no better place than Public Sector to make Microsoft’s mission statement of “empowering every person and every organization on the planet to achieve more” a reality. As a technology optimist, Didier believes that technology in general and Microsoft in particular can have a transformational impact on our societies. We can contribute to solving many challenges like sustainability, mobility, the energy crisis, healthcare, education, etc. in so many ways and Didier is looking forward to contributing to the worldwide public sector strategy globally.
