Biography
Steven Vanuytsel holds a PhD in chemistry from King’s College London, where he developed simultaneous optical single-channel recording and single-molecule fluorescence imaging to enhance protein nanopore sensing. As a postdoctoral researcher, he has worked on several optical and chemical approaches to study biological systems, including co‑developing a depth‑selective Raman fiber probe for endoscopy, mapping lipid distributions along neuronal axons using mass spectrometry imaging, and contributing to the development of an open‑source Raman confocal microscope. Currently, Steven is a researcher at imec, focusing on developing an integrated high-resolution, large field-of-view fluorescence imaging system on a chip. More broadly, his work combines optics, physics, and chemistry to probe and understand biological processes at the nanoscale, with applications in sensing, diagnostics, and fundamental bio‑nano science.
